Stans Interview!
Ahoy there Stan! How great it is to have you with us today in Avonmora's Daily Interview Room, I hope you enjoyed traveling here please take a seat...
* Stan Sits Down *
Right then Stan, if it is alright I call you that? I would like to ask you a few questions : So without no further or do, here they are...
Well, I make all my guild mates call me "The Grand Poobah of the Illustrious Order of Fore Aye's" but, Stan will do.
Q1) In the game, Pirates Glory they are different types of Players Merchants,Pirates,Nobility and Privateers which one of these would you call yourself? And why?
I would have to call myself a Privateer as I tend to go where the gold is. Some plunder, some merchant trading, a few fishing fleets but all working within a code of honor.
A good choice Indeed..
Q2) Why would a man who is known and respected by everybody ask/tell everybody to forget his name, who he is and the good deeds he has done? What are your thoughts on this?
Perhaps this man of who you speak does great things for mankind and fame. Limelight and recognition will only hamper his efforts to continue doing what he feels in his heart is right.
Certainly a good Answer!
Q3) I noticed a few months back - You were not the leader of Spanish Ayes, John Barrett was how do you feel about him changing you into the Guild Leader? Do you feel you deserved it after what you had done a good job of?
John Barrett was a great leader and a fine teacher. He established Spanish Aye's and its path. As with many who dedicate themselves to the game, outside influences and a wandering spirit prevented him from continuing regular log ins. As I was the first recruit he made, upon his absence, he tasked me to keep the guild safe and help it flourish. We had become a guild of 4 at that time. John Barrett and 3 new players. John Barrett returned some months later and upon seeing the guild's growth and successes felt I should continue on as leader and free him for other adventures.
A Very, Interesting and Developed Answer, I myself would of loved to meet this John Barrett.
Q4) Name a most Remembered part of your game play that you are proud of doing? Perhaps taking your first Ship Of The Line? Looting a inactive player?
Well, my very first ship I captured was from Danik. That was kinda fun and helped develop a taste for blood of which I try to control.
Not many would of guessed that you stole a ship From , what appears to be a good friend right now!
Q5) What is your most liked feature about the game? Which of the features such as Hideout, Fishing do you like and why?
I cannot say I like any specific part of the game more than other parts but I do enjoy a variety of paths to follow. Hence , being a Privateer allows a freedom to explore many avenues.
The Hideout feature came along at an opportune time for me as I had reached a point where I had tried most everything and the game was starting to run out of new experiences for me. Granted, I had been playing fairly steady for a year.
So the Hideout feature, gave you new Experiences : And a lot of Opportunity, as it must of done with every player - A fine Update Indeed!
Q6) Logical Question - If you had the chance to change something within game : What would it be? A feature perhaps?
There are a few things I would like to see added that would change the game. Port blockades, Port vs. Ship warfare, Port controlling land battles and player producing resources critical to port population and development.
All would be nice ; But to be honest some of these seem unlikely : I am not saying Anything, but Administration Would not allow some of these...
Q7) Judging by your Player ID, you have been playing for at least a year : As I have, Do you mind me asking how long you have been here?
I have been playing now about 18 months.
Quiet a long time in Avonmora for sure! Unlike some players that have been playing for years , you seemed to cover more about the game then some of them!
Q8) If you could start again - Which you can not due to certain factors of Game Rules, as this time you would know certain things that you did not when you first started... what would you do ?
Well, the game is a little different now compared to when I first started but if I were to start over tomorrow, I would fish. I would also have the choice of ships to steal from other new accounts using my knowledge gained from experience.
Something I won't do as a veteran of the game unless said player is being especially bothersome.
Aye just a question mate , I think many Others would do the same to be honest!
Q9) What are your opinions on the following: What is your definition on them?
Pirates
Merchants
Nobilists
Privateers
Ok.. I'll give my definition and then opinion if I may
Pirate- A nationless Captain who is not content with socially acceptable methods of doing business or earning a living. Pirates in Avonmora are a necessary part of a diverse demographic.
Merchant- Someone who purchases goods and then sells them for a profit. An honest, slow way to earn a solid income.
Noble - A person who has heavily contributed to the growth of a Nation. No specific opinion
Privateer- A captain who seeks opportunity from many different corners of Avonmora. Bound by rules of employment but employer may change on occasion as will their rules of engagement.
Humble opinions of every Player : I personally believe, other players would think lower of Pirates , it suprises me that you have no opinion of Nobles, but still that is your decision to do, isnt it?
Q10) What actually happened when TheLove Tiger and Danik changed to Mexico? As that was Big news if I remember, what was the cause?
Regarding what actually happened was TheLove Tiger and Danik changed their national status to a Spanish colonial power eg: Mexico in the same Spanish tradition that happened many years beforehand. To put words in their mouth would be irresponsible of me but one could assume they were unhappy with the path Spain found itself on with the influx of many new ports to uphold and defend from the disbanded Barbados nation. They remain a strong part of Spanish Aye's and provides the guild with more freedom to influence events as they unfold in Avonmora.
Ah - I heard storys different to this one , but you know the truth : As you are their leader , and are in spain so you understand the situation more then anyone else!
Q11) Do you think a average Player that has been playing for quite some time ( We will say 6 Months ) Can take down a giant in the game? Do you think Such thing would be Impossible or Just require Planning?
It would be possible I think but it would depend on many variables including how well the intermediate was trained and how much voodoo they have on hand. Status of the giant and mostly important, frequency of log-in on both combatants are major deciding factors.
A very interesting opinion indeed : All of these in my opinion are true , it all depends on the above factors.
Q12) What do you think the Future Holds for Avonmora? What type Of Player will there be in the future that manages to ' Rule ' over in terms of Numbers? Do you think Merchants will still hold the Upper-Hand or will Nobility take control for a change?
I don't quite understand the role of Nobility and the definition of "take control". Again, my opinion of what it takes to be successful in game is a well rounded approach in developing all aspects of the game. A strictly merchant guided player is going to feed the pirates. A pirate only approach is never going to have large fleets and also be successful. Failing to develop good infrastructure to support trade, warehousing and buried treasure reserves puts you in a position of vulnerability to recover from a calamitous event.
Q13a) Are they any People that you are ' Weary off ' ( Yes or no) Do you think you need to be weary off anyone in this game?
I find some players tiring and they can be quite wearing leaving me weary.
Some players I am also wary of as they demonstrate more cunning and tend to try to be manipulators.
Some players I am also wary of but hold in the highest respect. Players that have great power but understand the price of war can be too great to risk what they so far successfully built up.
Q13b) Are they any Guilds that you are 'Weary Off' ( Yes Or No - Do not have to specify which one ) If so, why?
I am wary of all guilds despite having good relations with most of them.
Q14) Logic Question - If, the Past is the Past, the present is the past : What term are we living in now?
The past, as present =past and present is where I live.
Eh, well i live in the past you see - Part of being in pirates glory.
Q15) What do you think of the most recent Update ' Fishing ' : If you do not like it, please explain why and what changes you would want... P.S You do have the ability to make Voodoo cards to change it [RP]
I like fishing and it can be a real boon to new players who lack the resources to develop trade fleets. Fishing gives them the ability to rapidly progress into a financial zone where they can be competitive thus increasing chance of longer term play. It don't take a lot of resources or game knowledge to get a healthy start on your character with fishing. With trade or NPC plunder, voodoo is needed to get close to earning the same amount of gc. Voodoo is not something a new player will have an abundance of.
Q16) Please, tell us your story of you Arriving to Avonmora... ( This is basically how you arrived - Make it up if you wish ) What did you do before you were a Privateer?
I came to Avonmora looking for adventure. I found Avonmora quite by accident but decided I liked it here so stayed. Someday I shall continue my quest of finding the North West Passage but until then, sandy beaches, fine rum and a mistress in every port leaves me wanting little.
Q17) Logic Question - Out of a Frigate, Ship Of The Line or Man Of War ( Not mentioning the Attribute count ) Which one would you rather have? Please, explain why if you choose not the Man Of War?
I personally like the Lrg Frigate but I now must re-evaluate its abilities as it has changed since my preference was made.
Eh i always find Lrg Frigs can be so low on Attributes to me : But then again, to me I am lucky with ship of the lines - it is not very unusual for me to get a 45 att sotl...
Q18) Please, give us your full brief about the good things in this game then the bad things : You may Use Names for good things/Bad Things?
I think the game is too difficult for new players to feel they are making progress. When I first started, I thought it would take me at least a year to get to mediocre status. I was right !
Aye, it is a long Journey indeed!
Q19) Which one would you consider to be more fun in the game - A pirate with nothing to loose, or a Merchant that has something to loose, but makes millions a day...?
Both can be fun and appeal to different sailors. Myself, I would get bored with only trading or being a broke pirate always searching to make my next multi-million plunder.
Q 20) If you are in a situation where you can do nothing worth doing, what would you do?
Nothing would be the logical thing to do.
Q21 ) Are they any choices in Pirates Glory of which you regret? And you wonder what would of happened if you chose to go down the other choice? Explain what you think would of happened...
So far, I'm fairly comfortable with my choices I have made. I got off to a slow start by trying to earn gc through trade and found that very hard row to hoe. That coupled with my inability to defeat NPC targets due to having too many traders, not enough gc to develop warships put me in a position where I thought, "this game is impossible and will take years to get decent income happening". (Devs take note). Not until I was enlightened, sold off enough trade ships to bring down the NPC's ability and give me enough gold to increase warship ability, did I start to move forward. Note this was before fishing was available.
To do it again, I would fish but if fishing were less profitable than currently, I would try to balance my warship ability vs. tradeship ownership so I could defeat NPC's and earn decent gc. There is a fairly tight balance needed at the start to be successful and one little mistake can set you back weeks or even months in development. This is why new players should be somewhat guided by a guild or more experienced players that can point out these errors and help new players become more competitive in game.
